Loong Swim Club is located at Coastal Bazaar, second floor, above the McDonalds. This school specializes in swimming lessons for toddlers aged 2-6 years old. Classes are usually in small groups 4-5 students (you can have 1:1 VIP classes, it costs 3x the regular lessons). I can’t remember how much we paid exactly, but it worked out to be around 250-300RMB per 45min class.
For beginner classes, parents are expected to be in the water with the child. When students can float and swim short distances independently, they can take the swim test and move up to the next level. Then parents don’t have to be in the water, they can watch the class from the waiting area. After the class, parents can wash the little ones in the open changing room. For older and taller kids, parents can take them into the adult changing room for more privacy.
For someone who grew up in western countries, swimming is something we all learn at a young age at school. But in China, swimming is not always taught in schools and parents often have to take them to after-school classes to teach swimming. So for me, growing up in New Zealand and Australia, swimming is an essential skill kids need to learn.
We started sending Naicha when she was about 3 years old and she has been attending classes once a week for more than a year. At first, we just wanted Naicha to be comfortable around water and not be scared, but now, she can dive in with head in the water, float and swim short distances independently (we are so happy with the results). Now, we are sending Kele as well.
